  1. There are pros and cons to adjusting the environment in which your shapes live, because the subject is a controlled variable, while it does not offer much variation in your shadow shapes. The photos show you might have been more concerned with the arrangement of the bottles rather than where the shadows land and light hits. A way to tune up the photos would be to afford a more drastic change in lighting and shape. A few photos throughout this collection are out of focus. The direction photos were very strong, viewers can tell exactly were the key light is coming from and the shadows complement the light well. Another strong area was the drastic temperature change from warm and cool light in your photos. The most interesting photo in temperature was the last one where the warm and cool light met coming from opposing. Next time we would enjoy seeing more verity in the shape arrangement. As well as more verity when/if pursuing hardness. The light diffusion could have been more drastic, there was very little variation in the soft and hard shadows.

  2. To begin, we feel that your direction images were strong and well thought out. it was easy to tell where your lighting was coming from and your compositions were dynamic. as we continued throughout your photos the images became stagnant and repetitive whit the lack of movement and creativity in your compositions. this was very noticeable indoor contrast images, because it created less definition in the shadows. Your technique in Temperature was conveyed well. We noticed there are several out of focus images in your set. these distracted from the overall gallery. In the future I would try and play with the composition o you're shapes to help create a more dynamic photo that captures the eye and kept people interested in you work.

  3. Going through your 5 characteristics portfolio, we enjoyed all the photos submitted. Starting with direction, I enjoyed the fact that you were able to translate the direction's meaning for the viewer to enjoy. Direction position 4 was my favorite because it portrayed a lot of depth, almost viewing it as some kind of window the viewer can peek through but still being able to capture a focal point with the 2 bottles against each other. Position 8 although is a nice composition, with a little bit of focusing, it would've maybe washed out, or maybe define the whiteness in the photo more so it doesn't seem to hog the viewer's attention while looking at it. A good example for this would be what you demonstrated in position 3 direction photo where the darkness doesn't take away the attention but rather amplify the purpose and intent for the photo as a whole. Another key factor we enjoyed was dealing with temperature. You caught a lot of nice color such as the dark blues, combining the right amount the light and capturing a nice hue really defined the composition and temperature. One suggestion is to switch up the bottle positioning throughout the temperature section. It is creative, but keeping the same positioning with different color starts to become redundant for the viewer. Same goes for the rest of the portfolio, contrast and hardness could've used more variety in bottle placement, but still did a good job on capturing the meaning for each element. Overall, it shows that you understand each element and did a good job expressing your creativity through the lens, next time, switch up the bottle positioning so it keeps the viewer "surprise factor" alive throughout the whole portfolio. Good job, keep it up! - Maya Bush, Sierra Sandoval, Jay Ramos.
